About Arts Online

Welcome to Arts Online, a program offering online instruction in the Visual and Performing Arts.

Arts Online is a division of Mason Gross School of the Arts. Arts Online was established in spring 2010 to provide an institutional umbrella for the school's rapid increase in online enrollments. What started as a pilot project in 2007, with a single music faculty member teaching two online courses, expanded to accommodate nearly 6000 students enrolled in more than 100 online classes during the 2013-2014 academic year. As a result of this extraordinary growth, Arts Online has become the largest online program at Rutgers University.

Arts Online entered its first full academic year in fall 2010. The division currently offers online courses across all four departments of the school—Music, Dance, Theater, and Visual Arts—as well as the school's outreach arm, the Mason Gross Extension Division, the Rutgers Center for Digital Filmmaking, and the Brodsky Center for Innovative Editions.

Our mission is to serve not only the Rutgers community but students around the globe, delivering high-quality arts education along with the most cutting-edge technologies available to the virtual classroom. To take Arts Online to an even higher level of excellence, we are in the process of appointing an international team of distinguished faculty, whose diverse professional expertise will inspire a stimulating exchange of cultural, intellectual, and artistic ideas. We also are pleased to announce a new Master of Music Education online degree program, which began Spring 2014 and will feature new core courses for the 2014-15 academic year.
