History and Theory of Integrated Dance Online

Course number: 07:206:370
Course offered: Spring semester
Course delivery: Asynchronous course delivery through Rutgers Arts Online

  • Course meets synchronously online from 5-6:30 pm on Monday evenings
  • Additional projects assigned asynchronously, with related synchronous presentations towards the end of the semester

The course investigates integrated dance culture in the U.S. and internationally, tracing disability dance back to disability rights movements and emerging educational, recreational, and artistic opportunities for disabled populations. Integrated dance theory is developed by examining the models of disability apply to education, physical recreation and dance. Our perceptions of ‘normalized’ bodies then questions how a dancing body might look, i.e., towards inclusive, responsive, and ethical teaching and choreography for dancers of all abilities.
