Jazz Trombones play Jazz on the Plaza series May 16, 2013, in NYC

The Rutgers University Scarlet Knights Jazz Trombones are set to perform at the Jazz on the Plaza lunchtime concert series on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 12:30 p.m., in New York City. They will perform at 53rd Street and Lexington Avenue with Frank “Ku-umba” Lacy, trombonist with the renowned Mingus Big Band.

Under the direction of acclaimed trombonist Conrad Herwig, the students won first prize in the Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition in Nashville, Tenn., in 2011. The group has shared the stage with Paquito D’Rivera and others for several years at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City and have performed with Eddie Palmieri and Frank Sinatra Jr.
