BFA in Dance Performance

The Bachelor of Fine Arts program in dance is for students desiring to become professional dance artists and who wish to pursue their goals within the artistic and intellectual climate of a major university. The two primary aims of dance majors are excellence in modern dance performance and outstanding creative achievement.  The faculty's diverse interests and accomplishments as artists, scholars, and educators ensure expert direction in all three areas of the curriculum: technique and performance, choreography, and theoretical studies. The faculty of working choreographers and dance artists supports each student's search for original expression. Students begin their study of creative work with closely supervised problem-solving and improvisation practice. This work continues through courses in choreography and culminates in the senior year with supervised senior projects. Students applying to the BFA in dance must submit an application to the Mason Gross School of the Arts and in addition are encouraged to submit an application to the School of Arts and Sciences to be considered for the BA in dance.  Audition required.

A professional faculty, excellent facilities in a suburban setting 45 minutes from New York City, and abundant performing opportunities make the Mason Gross School ideal for the student seeking a professional career in the field of dance.

Students take a daily, diverse curriculum of studio and theoretical courses including modern dance technique, and ballet technique.
