Programs of Study

The Dance Department at Mason Gross strives for excellence in dance performance, dance education and outstanding creative achievement allowing students to explore creative artistry in a diverse educational environment. A professional faculty with a comprehensive range of study areas, excellent facilities in a suburban setting and abundant performing opportunities make the Mason Gross School ideal for any student seeking a professional career in dance. The Dance Department is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance and offers multiple degrees in both dance performance and education.


Minor in Dance


With an entering class of roughly 35 BFA Undergraduates and 12 EdM Graduates each year, dance students at Mason Gross experience a very personal approach to their college education.  Students are able to extend their artistic reach and potential in our ample studio space, beautiful rural campus setting and state of the art performance facilities just 45 minutes from New York City and some of the most notable dance companies in the world. The department has an active series of professional dance companies in residence and choreographers work side by side with our students in class and on stage.

Our graduate program in dance education prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to be an effective dance educator by taking classes in teaching concepts from Elementary to Middle School and foundations in Dance Education.


Under the direction of Julia Ritter (recipient of three Fulbright Awards by the United States Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs) the Dance faculty includes accomplished artists in dance, choreography, education and research who have worked nationally with American Dance Festival, Jacob's Pillow, The New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, The Three Rivers Shakespeare Festival, and The Juilliard School and internationally in the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, etc. Additionally, each semester students are given the opportunity to work in class with professional companies and choreographers in residence and also participate in master classes given by notable industry professionals.
