The Rutgers Conservatory at Shakespeare's Globe in London is the only major theatrical training program in America to provide you, the theater artist, with a full year of classical conservatory study, abroad, at a professional theater of international stature. You will live in the heart of London and study there with a world-renowned faculty of master teachers. The conservatory course structure is supported by onsite study, whereby you understand the curriculum by actually being THERE. You further contextualize classical and contemporary theater arts through weekly visits to historic, artistic, and cultural landmarks, UK theaters, festival and museums. The unique aspect of this training is its location - in London, at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. Founded by the pioneering American actor and director Sam Wanamaker, Shakespeare's Globe is a unique international resource dedicated to the exploration of Shakespeare's Work and the playhouse for which he wrote, through the connected means of performance and education. The facilities include a faithful reproduction of the open-air Globe Theatre used by William Shakespeare for his own company in the 16th century, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse - an indoor Jacobean theater, the closest representation of Shakespeare's own Blackfriars, and Globe Education's Sackler Studios which opened in 2010 on the corner of Bear Gardens.
This program is carefully designed to enhance and broaden the skills of each student. The experience and knowledge you gain there will provide a solid foundation for your growth as theater artists, deepening your understanding of Shakespeare in context of classical and contemporary British Arts and Culture.
