DownBeat Magazine featured the Rutgers Jazz Ensemble in an article about remote instruction during the fall semester, with several quotes from jazz faculty member Conrad Herwig. Like many others, the jazz studies program had to pivot in their instruction protocols when Rutgers University classes became fully remote in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Herwig said he expects to use some of these tactics for future instruction in the jazz studies program.
“Post-COVID, there’s no going back to the way things were. There’s going to have to be some hybrid approach. What we’re trying to do is incorporate this technology and this virtual process into live rehearsal and performance. So, in the future, we’ll have both, which is a cool thing.” – Conrad Herwig
