FAQs

What are the venue opening and closing times for performances?

Lobby will open 60 minutes prior to the start of the performance and the seating area will open 30 minutes prior. For Kirkpatrick Chapel, the building opens 30 minutes prior to the start of the performance.

Can I bring my child to a performance?

Children under the age of 5 will not be permitted into any performance. Children 5+ must have their own ticket and seat and must be able to sit quietly during the performance. Please note that some of our presentations include adult content and language. Due to fire-code regulations and the comfort of other patrons, no strollers, baby carriers, or booster seats are permitted inside the venues.

Can I bring food or drink into the venue?

Food and beverages are prohibited inside all audience seating areas and in the lobby of Nicholas Music Center. Please refrain from talking, texting, or unwrapping lozenges during the performance.

What should I wear?

Facility temperatures can be a challenge to maintain. It is recommended that patrons dress in layers. By virtue of being in a university setting, the dress code at our events is casual.

Can I photograph or record a performance?

Cameras and recording devices of any kind are prohibited inside the audience seating areas, and this includes camera phones. The management reserves the right to hold any of the above during performances. Turn off all electronic devices, including mobile phones, for the duration of the performance. If they cause a disturbance during a performance, they will be confiscated until the conclusion of the event. The house manager will gladly hold phones in case of an emergency.

Can I be seated after a performance has started?

Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of management. To minimize disruption, patrons are placed in a pre-determined section of the theater and may then move to join their party at intermission. Tickets may be exchanged for another performance up to 30 minutes after the curtain time printed on the ticket, subject to availability. Late seating is subject to availability and late-seating times are determined by the sponsoring department.

If you leave the theater during the performance you will be re-seated at the discretion of the management.

Can I smoke?

Smoking is prohibited inside all MGPAC venues.

Effective January 1, 2023, the Rutgers Tobacco-Free by 2023 policy covers all campuses – indoors and outdoors – and includes the use of all tobacco products. The policy applies to students, employees, and visitors. More info regarding this initiative: https://www.rutgers.edu/news/rutgers-be-tobacco-free-2023.

Why isn't my online order working?

There could be several reasons your online order is not going through:

  • If you entered an incorrect email when you created your online account, you will not receive the Order Confirmation or print-at-home ticket email within 30 minutes of completing your online order. Email boxoffice@mgsa.rutgers.edu for assistance.
  • Accepted credit card types are Visa, Mastercard, and Discover only. If you are attempting to use any other credit card type than those listed above, you will not receive an error message in the payment window. Switch to an accepted credit card type.
  • Ticket limits apply to the Employee, Senior, Alumni, or Student ticket types. Employee, Senior, Alumni can get up to two tickets. Students can get one ticket. Observe these limits and select another ticket type to continue.
  • If you did not receive the print-at-home tickets, they could be lost in your inbox. Check your junk/spam folders and/or search by “My MGPAC” and they will likely pop up. In Gmail accounts, check the promotions folder. If you still cannot find them, email boxoffce@mgsa.rutgers.edu for assistance.
  • The online ticket sale cut-off time is 2.5 hours prior to the scheduled start time. After this cut-off time, you can purchase tickets at the door starting at 1 hour prior to the schedule performance time (30 minutes for Kirkpatrick Chapel).
What are your security procedures?

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, maintains a comprehensive public-safety program aimed at serving all members of the campus community. Detailed information is available on the University Public Safety page.

What should I do if I have an issue that needs to be addressed at an event?

The MGPAC is staffed primarily by Rutgers students from across the university and disciplines. Full-time staff supervisors are always present and are happy to assist you with any issues that our student staff cannot resolve. Please ask a member of our student staff to contact a supervisor.

Can I rent one of your venues for an event?

Several Mason Gross performance venues are available for rent. Detailed information is available on our Rentals page.
