Biography

Wanda Gała is a public artist with a transdisciplinary approach to conveying the embodiment of cultural phenomenon. She has staged performances and installations at venues including The Redcat (LA), The Kitchen (NY), The Highline (NY), The Bronx Museum of the Arts (NY), Highways Performance Space (Santa Monica), The New Museum (NY), Abrons Arts Center (NY), and Anti-Fest (FI). “The Organ Player '' for which Gała was the choreographer and creative consultant, was nominated for a Bessie Award for Outstanding Production (of a work at the forefront of contemporary dance and performance practices) and premiered as a film at Sundance in 2018. She has served as an artist-in-residence at the Music Center of Los Angeles (USA), Silesian Contemporary Dance Festival (PL), Fabrica de Polivar, Oeiras (PT), pIAR (GH), and has taught domestically at UC Santa Barbara, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Judson Memorial Church, Gibney Dance, City College of New York, and Arts on Site. She has curated cultural and community programming for various organizations, including New York City's Department of Youth and Community Development, the New York Restoration Project, the Center for Performance Research, Chez Bushwick, and Brooklyn Arts Council.

Gała is co-founder of the New York-based somatics platform Autosomatica and most recently was in residence at the Perforcraze International Artist Residency, Kumasi, where she developed a new work with Julius Yaw Quansah for Chale Wote 2022.
