Biography

Emily Funicello holds an EdM in Dance Education from Rutgers University, where she was the recipient of the Dance Education Excellence Award, and graduated summa cum laude from Mason Gross School of the Arts with a BFA in Dance.Emily is a full-time dance educator for Jersey City Public Schools, where she developed the K-5 dance curriculum. She was the recipient of the Disney Musicals in Schools grant program through NJPAC, helping to build a sustainable musical theater program for elementary students. Emily is the choreographer for the nationally recognized Conwell Kidz Drama Program. The Conwell Kidz have received top awards at The National Performing Arts Festival in Walt Disney World and The Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta, GA, as well as piloted musical productions with iTheatrics, Musical Theatre International and Disney Musicals.

Emily is the co-founder and choreographer of the non-profit musical theatre academy, City Kidz Playhouse, serving students of all backgrounds in Hudson County, NJ. Emily has completed dance residencies as a teaching artist for the Dance Theatre of Harlem. She has performed with Zella Dance and Hysterika Jazz Dance at venues that include the Dumbo Arts Festival, Dixon Place, Breaking Glass Project (Ailey Citigroup Theater), Boston Contemporary Dance Festival (Paramount Theater), Jersey New Moves (NJPAC), and the NY Jazz Choreography Project (Salvator Capezio Theater).

Emily is a part-time lecturer for The Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University.

Emily is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.
