Biography

Andrew “Stick” Elliott serves as the staff Technical Director for the Theater Department at Mason Gross. Stick has been building and engineering scenery for over 30 years and has been teaching students about technical theater for over 20 years. He received his BA in Drama with Emphasis in Design for Drama from San Diego State University and his MFA in Theater Technology from Indiana University, Bloomington. He has worked for large regional theater venues such as The Old Globe, The La Jolla Playhouse, and The San Diego Opera. Stick also has designed scenery and sound as well as composed original music for many shows on both the east and west coast. His research interests include the pedagogy of teaching technology, implementing fine craftsmanship practices into theatrical production, and stage automation. When he is not creating theater, Stick has a variety of interests that he pursues, including hiking, fishing, fine woodworking, and refereeing women’s flat track roller derby.
