Pianist Michelle Rofrano has found her place in the Music Department

At age 6 Rofrano was all about the violin. But practical considerations won out: The Rofrano family received a second-hand piano, not a violin, and that was that.

Miller, 58, has served as the Mason Gross School’s acoustic piano technician since 1997, tuning pianos and preparing them for recitals and visiting musicians.

“I just hear it,” Miller says. “I don’t have perfect pitch. But I hear.”

The Rutgers Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Kynan Johns threw it down Jay-Z style earlier this year in an appearance with the legendary rapper in a Super Bowl Jay-Z with RSOXLIV music video. The 2-minute teaser featuring the hit song “Run This Town” aired just minutes before the kickoff between the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts. The broadcast was seen by more than 106 million viewers, the most-watched program in television history.

Trombone

Amanda Stewart joined the New York Philharmonic as Associate Principal Trombone in September 2009. Born in Oakland, Maryland, she began playing the trombone at the age of six. Her studies started with Harold Hudnall and continued with Keith Jackson, professor of trombone and euphonium at West Virginia University. She received her bachelor of music degree from The Juilliard School in 2004, studying with New York Philharmonic Principal Trombone Joseph Alessi.

Kevin Viscariello handles all scheduling of Music Department facilities including the course and concert schedule as well as rentals of the Music Department facilities. He also oversees the entire Mason Gross Performing Arts Center facilities complex. Viscariello is an alumnus of the Rutgers Music Department.
