Shahrzad Changalvaee is an interdisciplinary visual artist whose practice spans sculpture, installation, video, sound, design, and research. Through a combination of moving images, archival materials, found objects, and participatory structures, she explores migration, memory, language, identity, and the relationship between personal narratives and broader social and political systems. Her work investigates how histories are constructed, transmitted, and reimagined, often examining displacement, belonging, and the intersection of lived experience with collective memory.
Changalvaee’s work has been exhibited internationally in museums and galleries across the United States, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, including the CCS Hessel Museum of Art, Shanghai Biennial and a number of galleries and institutions across America, Europe and The Middle East
She received an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University and a BA in Graphic Design from the University of Tehran. In addition to her studio practice, Changalvaee has worked across media and human rights organizations, bringing together visual communication, storytelling, and public engagement. She has previously taught at The Cooper Union, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and Caldwell University.
