My black body cannot be unseen. It is ever-present. Like all bodies. With nuance and a kind of magic. As dramatherapists, we are concerned with whole body experience and attunement. It has never been more important than ‘here and now’, for us to learn how to navigate the uncomfortable terrain of institutions, intersectionality, and individual difference.

Biography

I am a HCPC state registered Dramatherapist and Creative Arts Supervisor who graduated from the University of Roehampton with a Masters in Dramatherapy where I now also teach Therapeutic Stories and Ritual Theatre Units. Before retraining to become a Therapist my final role on stage was Prospero. As a Therapist I work in the community with women at risk of the Criminal Justice System and or with life enduring mental ill health. As well as leading Health & Wellbeing on a weekly basis at Clean Break Theatre Company I also work regularly as an in-house production Dramatherapist with several renowned theatres such as the National Theatre’s Othello and Trouble in Mind, Bristol Old Vic’s The Meaning of Zong, and a socially prescribed Long Covid program at Old Vic Theatre. I also regularly work with Kiln Theatre and teach the Pedagogy of Storytelling and Ritual Theatre annually at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. I began my Dramatherapy career on an acute NHS mental health ward for two years before returning to theatre and working in the community. I have a small private practice and consultancy and am currently the in-house Dramatherapist on Dr Semmelweis with Mark Rylance directed by Tom Morris at the Harold Pinter Theatre until October 2023.
