Roobi Starla Gaskins is a New York City–based interdisciplinary artist specializing in dance, choreography, and wearable art. While she has always held a deep passion for dance, her movement foundation was shaped through 14 years of competitive figure skating, including competing internationally as a member of the Puerto Rican national team. Following an injury, Gaskins redirected her career path and pursued formal dance training at Bard College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with a concentration in Africana Studies.

Gaskins is a former company member of Urban Bush Women and has performed and collaborated with artists and organizations including Abby Z and the New Utility, Brownbody, Houston Grand Opera, LaJuné McMillian, and 7NMS. Her performance credits include the Guggenheim Museum, BAM, Lincoln Center, Jacob’s Pillow, and Perelman Performing Arts Center. She is a recipient of the 2024 GALLIM Moving Artist Residency and currently teaches dance and figure skating throughout New York City.

House dance, a street and club dance form, sits at the center of Gaskins’s movement practice. She studies and teaches the form and participates in house dance battles nationally and internationally. Drawing from a wide range of movement influences, she channels her kaleidoscopic lineage into performance and experimental storytelling. Through movement and interdisciplinary exploration, Gaskins seeks a wholeness that allows multiple parts of the self to coexist without hierarchy. Her work engages movement as a site for discovery, healing, and liberation, inviting both individual and collective reflection toward more expansive ways of being.
