Biography

Paul C. Ocampo (he/him/siya), Co-Artistic Director of OcampoWang Dance, received his MFA from The Ohio State University. He choreographed and performed with Ballet Philippines and Singapore Dance Theatre altogether for seventeen years. With these companies, he performed extensively and participated in numerous International Festivals. He was awarded the Shell-NAC Young Artist Award and is a recipient of scholarships from National Arts Council (Singapore), Lee Foundation, and Howell Dance Fund. A keen learner of different languages, he has received a Labanotation Teacher Certification. Paul has worked with many illustrious choreographers including: Susan Hadley, Victoria Uris, Bebe Miller, Douglas Nielsen, Joe Alegado, Zvi Gotheiner, Graham Lustig, Jean Paul Commelin, Leigh Warren, Norman Walker, Alice Reyes, Gener Caringal, Agnes Locsin, Edna Vida, Denisa Reyes, Anthony Then, Goh Soo Khim, and many more. In 2007, he was awarded the Utah Arts Council Individual Artist Project Grant to present Bridging Bridges. He has also been invited as a guest artist with Repertory Dance Theatre in Salt Lake City, Utah, Beijing Normal University and National Taiwan University of Arts. His works have been presented in Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and in the United States. Paul performed a work co-choreographed with Chien-Ying Wang at Manhattan Movement Arts Center in NYC which Roslyn Sulcas of the New York Times gave high accolades. Paul is a recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship and was an Associate Professor at Southern Utah University before joining Rutgers.
