Biography

Molly Lieber and Eleanor Smith’s feminist collaboration deconstructs neoliberal images of female objectification and presents new versions, coming from the potentiality of movement to express inner landscape. Their practice is in continuous dialogue with building a sustainable life as working artists in New York. Body Comes Apart (2019), was documented by the New York Public Library, and Basketball was featured in The New York Times “Best of Dance for the Year 2017.” Awarded a 2023/2024 Extended Life Residency through Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, they participated in the Mnemedance Conference in Venice and have an upcoming chapter in the Oxford Handbook of Dance and Memory. Molly received a 2016 “Bessie” Award for Outstanding Performer and a cover article in Dance Magazine. She recently performed in works by luciana achugar, Beth Gill, Antonio Ramos, Donna Uchizono, Keely Garfield, Wally Cardona, Maria Hassabi, and Neil Greenberg. She received a 2022/2023 Distinguished Graduate Fellowship and a 2023/2024 Women and Gender Studies Paper Award from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
