Lucy Turner is a lecturer at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. Previously, she taught at Montclair State University and at Columbia University. Dr. Turner earned her PhD in Historical Musicology in 2022 from Columbia University, where she was a Core Lecturer from 2022 to 2025. She also holds degrees in violin performance from Vanderbilt University and Boston University.

Her research explores instrumental style, publishing practices, creative process, and temporality in nineteenth-century chamber music. She has presented her work in the United States and Europe, including at the American Musicological Society annual meeting and at the Smithsonian Institution. Her scholarly writing has appeared in Eighteenth-Century Music, Nineteenth-Century Music Review, Notes: The Quarterly Journal of the Music Library Association, and the edited volume The New Beethoven. Forthcoming work explores the “opus concept” after the turn of the nineteenth century, the relationship between chamber music keyboard improvisation in the early Romantic period, and a book project that advances a theory of “middle style” in conversation with the vast body of work on “late style” already extant in musicology, art history, and comparative literature. Originally from Raleigh, NC, she is currently based in Philadelphia.
