Biography

Lucy Bird first joined Shakespeare’s Globe in 2012 through its school leavers programme, working as a Higher Education Assistant in an administrative role. She later studied English and Theatre at the University of Warwick, where she founded Paperback Theatre, an adaptation-focused company.

Since graduating, Bird has developed Paperback Theatre into a national touring and producing company with a focus on family theatre and live events created for and with local and regional communities.

Her directing work includes Yours Sincerely for Quick Duck Theatre, Cause & Effect and From Mumsnet with Love for Birmingham Opera Company, and River Tours: The Daugava for Stan’s Cafe.

In 2018, Bird received the JMK Regional Assistant Director Bursary to assist on The Lovely Bones, adapted by Bryony Lavery and directed by Melly Still.

Alongside her directing practice, Bird has worked in creative learning and education roles at Birmingham REP, Shakespeare’s Globe, and Stan’s Cafe, where she was a Creative Learning Associate.

She has been delighted to return to the Globe as the Rutgers Company Manager, combining her experience with education, administration, and theatre-making to provide a high level of pastoral and practical support to the students.
