Joseph London is a Broadway performer, vocalist, educator, and arts administrator whose career spans opera, musical theatre, and higher education. London combines world-class conservatory training with extensive professional experience. His passion for teaching encompasses every stage of development, from beginners crafting their first 16-bar audition cut to advanced students preparing for juries, roles, and professional auditions. London focuses on healthy vocal technique, artistic confidence, and a collaborative work ethic. He strives to provide students with tools they can apply immediately in the rehearsal room and on stage, in a supportive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.

Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, London holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. He continued his studies at Juilliard Opera Center with renowned voice teacher Marlena Malas. He’s served as Artistic Manager of the internationally acclaimed Ravinia Festival and as Adjunct Professor of Musical Theatre Voice at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.

While at Juilliard, London won the Chicago District and Central Regional rounds of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. His operatic credits include Chicago Opera Theater, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and leading roles in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Dido and Aeneas, Le Rossignol, L’incoronazione di Poppea, Agrippina, and The Rake’s Progress. London toured nationally with CATS as Old Deuteronomy and appeared regionally in Sweeney Todd, Avenue Q, and Beauty and the Beast.

London has a long, record-setting relationship with the legendary musical CHICAGO with over 3,000 performances to his name. He first performed the show as Mary Sunshine aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, then toured nationally and internationally, and in 7 regional productions, leading to his Broadway debut in the same role. He has since been the full-time standby for both Mary Sunshine and Amos Hart (Mr. Cellophane), the first and only actor in Broadway history to perform both roles. Eight years later, London has stepped onto The Ambassador Theatre stage as Mary Sunshine more than 300 times and as Amos Hart more than 150 times. This August, London will perform CHICAGO in concert with the Utah Symphony under the baton of legendary Broadway conductor Rob Fisher, portraying both Mary Sunshine and Amos Hart in the same performance.

London’s pedagogy extends beyond the studio and stage. His collegiate teaching experience, combined with his extensive professional career, informs a practical and holistic approach to vocal instruction that bridges the gap between classroom training and professional performance.
