Geoff Mullen is a sound artist, educator, and curator whose work investigates the expressive and conceptual possibilities of sonic media in contemporary art. With a background in music composition and interdisciplinary studies, Mullen’s practice bridges experimental sound, moving image, and installation. His artistic voice has been shaped not only by academic inquiry but also through DIY experimentation, extensive collaboration, and a deep engagement with place and community. His performances and installations have been featured at leading institutions and underground venues across North America and Europe, including Mass MoCA, Café Oto (London), Haus der Elektronischen Künste (Basel), RISD Museum, The Bunker (Brooklyn), Music Gallery (Toronto) and many others.
Mullen has collaborated with artists such as Dana Hoey, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Jo Dery, and Eli Keszler, and has published work with Lateral Addition, Standing Waves, and Ear Wave Event. As co-founder of Remote Viewing, a Philadelphia-based project space, he has helped present dynamic sound and multimedia works from emerging and established artists worldwide.
A dedicated educator, Mullen teaches at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts, focusing on the critical and technical aspects of sound for film. His previous teaching roles include appointments at Massachusetts College of Art & Design and the Rhode Island School of Design, where he emphasized sound as a primary medium of inquiry and exhibition.
