Domecq Smith is a lecturer in music theory for Rutgers Arts Online and a former lecturer in the master’s and doctoral programs in Music Education for Rutgers Arts Online. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from the Mason Gross School of the Arts where his research examined New Jersey public school music teachers’ attitudes and perceptions of the evaluation process performed upon them. This research culminated in New Jersey’s first statewide study on this topic. Smith holds additional degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.
An author and composer, Smith has published numerous articles and reviews in the international journal The Diapason. His contributions include historical organ literature analysis as well as reviews of new works, collections, and editions. His compositions published by the ECS Publishing Group are distributed and performed in the United States and internationally. He is a two-time recipient of the Meet the Composer Grant through the National Endowment for the Arts. He teaches music for the Plainfield Public School District and is Director of Music for the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Orange, New Jersey.
