A total of 21 local artists were paired with a social justice organization to create artwork on display in downtown business windows in New Brunswick and Highland Park. Each piece demonstrates how the organizations are making positive strides on wide range of social justice issues including food insecurity; immigration; LGBTQA+ issues; mass incarceration and human trafficking; mental health; and violence.
Window displays are up along Church, George and French streets in New Brunswick, and at the Rite Aid ‘Windows on 4th Gallery’ in Highland Park.
“The project is not only about artistic expression of social justice issues, but relationship building,” said Windows of Understanding cofounder Cassandra Oliveras-Moreno, a two-time Rutgers graduate. “That is the heart of the project.”
