Celebrate 50 years of MGSA at Rutgers Day, April 25

As part of Rutgers Day, the university’s largest annual open house and community celebration at Rutgers–New Brunswick, Mason Gross (MGSA) students, staff, and faculty will celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary at Bettenbender Plaza (in front of the Nicholas Music Center), 85 George St., New Brunswick.

Rutgers Day, which features more than 500 programs and activities, is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026, on Busch campus, and the College Avenue and Cook/Douglass campuses.

“We have created a new zone on the Cook/Douglass campus to celebrate [MGSA’s] anniversary,” says Patricia Kastner, senior director of strategic events and programs for Rutgers Communications and Marketing (R-Comm). 

Mason Gross activities include:

  • Open rehearsals by opera singers and instrumentalists from noon to 6 p.m. at Shindell Choral Hall
  • Student music recitals (vocal, saxophone) at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at various locations
  • A Latin social dance workshop from noon to 1 p.m. on Bettenbender Plaza
  • Arts activities for children, including filmmaking tutorials
  • Adaptive dance classes designed for those with mobility issues at 11 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. at Loree Theater
  • Tables on Bettenbender Plaza staffed by members of the school promoting summer and online programs
  • A visual art exhibition in the Mason Gross Galleries at 33 Livingston Ave. (next to the State Theatre)
