A photo of Emily Sara. She has flaming pink medium-length hair, oversized square glasses and a black dress with tiny red and white flowers with a blue cast over it. Stim Aesthetics names the sensory logics that disabled (including neurodivergent) artists and designers bring to the act of making. Through repetition, texture, rhythm, movement, and beyond, the stim becomes not only a practice of regulation and joy but also a critical component in the production of art and design. This talk explores how this framework opens new ways of understanding aesthetics, embodiment, and how the history of art and design is intrinsically connected to disability. Emily Sara is a queer disabled artist, designer, writer, and educator. She founded Cripple, a publishing initiative that supports disabled artists and designers.
