Design Lecture: Emily Sara, “Stim Aesthetics”

Stim Aesthetics names the sensory logics that disabled (including neurodivergent) artists and designers bring to the act of making. Through repetition, texture, rhythm, movement, and beyond, the stim becomes not only a practice of regulation and joy but also a critical component in the production of art and design. This talk explores how this framework opens new ways of understanding aesthetics, embodiment, and how the history of art and design is intrinsically connected to disability. Emily Sara is a queer disabled artist, designer, writer, and educator. She founded Cripple, a publishing initiative that supports disabled artists and designers.
