AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE DAY
AT RUTGERS UNIVERSITY

Fall event: Sunday, October 28, 2018, 9:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Following Registration, all participants must RSVP to Master Classes & Workshops through this form

Registered students may park in lots 79, 79a, and Douglass Deck without permits.  Guests must use this link to register their cars. Guests must use the below link to register for the event. Until this process is completed vehicles are not registered and guests may receive a citation. Special event parking and special event permits are only for visitors to the University which does not include free metered parking. Faculty, Staff, and Students must park only in lots they are authorized to park in. 

Event description

  • ABT Day at Mason Gross is an annual event consisting of workshops and master classes for dancers of all ages.  Classes will be presented by ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of Ballet faculty members and members of the Rutgers University ABT Certified School of Ballet faculty.  Also featured in this event are dancers from American Ballet Theatre's Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of Ballet, who will perform a lecture demonstration that will be the culminating event of the day. The event celebrates dancers ages 4 through collegiate and graduate students, providing them with the opportunity to experience state of the art, age-appropriate instruction utilizing ABT's National Training Curriculum.  Parents and instructors have the opportunity to learn first hand about ABT's unique curriculum through class observation.

  • Master classes and workshops for students, parents, and teachers.  Also, a lecture demonstration moderated by Cynthia Harvey presented by the ABT JKO School Pre-Professional Division students.

9:15 a.m.

  • ABT Day Check-In (Robert E. Mortensen Hall)

10-11 a.m.

  • Storytelling Through Dance for Young Dancers (ages 7-13) taught by ABT faculty member, Richard Toda, Peggy Petteway, assisting.

10 - 11:30 a.m.

  • Technique Master Class for Collegiate and Graduate Dancers (including Rutgers undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni) with ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Students taught by ABT faculty member, Robert La Fosse.
  • Technique Master Class for Pre-College Intermediate Dancers ages 13+, taught by Cynthia Harvey, Artistic Director of the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. 

 

11:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

  • Storytelling through Dance for Primary Dancers (ages 4-7) taught by ABT faculty member, Richard Toda, Peggy Petteway, assisting.

11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

  • Intermediate Pointe class* taught by Cynthia Harvey, Artistic Director of the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School.  *Participants should have at least 2 years on Pointe.
  • Men's class for Rutgers undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni taught by ABT faculty member, Robert La Fosse.

12:30 - 2:15 p.m.

  • Lunch Break
  • Craft activity led by ABT faculty member, Richard Toda.

2:15 - 3:30 p.m.

  • Lecture demonstration, followed by a Questions & Answer session (Lorree Theater)

Fees

  • $25 registration fee 
  • $10 registration fee for current students of the Mason Gross ABT Certified School of Ballet 
  • Free admission for Mason Gross Dance students (BA, BFA, EdM, MFA).  Please contact our office at 848-932-8618 or extdiv.office@mgsa.rutgers.edu for assistance in registering.

The Mason Gross School of the Arts, Extension Division is honored to be one of five ABT Certified Ballet Schools in the nation. Classes for students ages 4-18 are taught during the academic year by ABT-affiliate teachers in the beautiful dance studios of the Nicholas Music Center on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Program participants enjoy the benefits of ABT training in central New Jersey and participation in many of ABT’s New York-based events. All classes utilize the acclaimed ABT® National Training Curriculum.
