Please join us for American Ballet Theatre Day 2016 at the Mason Gross School of the Arts!  
 
Event description
  • ABT Day at Mason Gross is an annual event consisting of an afternoon of workshops and master classes featuring faculty members and dancers from American Ballet Theatre. The events celebrates young dancers (ages 4-18) providing them with the opportunity to experience state of the art, age appropriate instruction utilizing ABT's National Training Curriculum.  Parents and instructors have the opportunity to learn first hand about ABT's unique curriculum through class observation.  A performance featuring ABT's world class Studio Company closes the event.   • Precollege ballet students (ages 4-18) and their family members

  • People interested in learning more about ABT’s National Training Curriculum and the ABT Certified School at Mason Gross.

  • Nicholas Music Center and the Loree Dance Theatre on the Douglass Campus, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey

  • Master classes and workshops for students, parents and teachers.  An evening concert presented by the ABT Studio Company.

Schedule of Events

1-2:30 p.m., Young Dancer Master Class

Presented by ABT’s Artistic Coordinator for Educational Outreach, Richard Toda, American Ballet Theatre’s Young Dancer master class introduces ballet students to ABT’s training methods. The class includes center preparatory exercises, exercises at the barre, center practice, and traveling combinations across the floor. Dance educators and parents are invited to observe this class.

Participants: Beginner ballet students, ages 9-12

2:45-4 p.m., ABT Studio Company Master Classfor Intermediate and Advanced Pre-College Dancers

This master class is an opportunity for intermediate and advanced pre-college dancers to take a class with ABT's Studio Company, taught by ABT Studio Company Director and former ABT dancer, Kate Lydon.  Dancers are introduced to the classical technique and style of American Ballet Theatre, and to key elements of the ABT National Training Curriculum.  Dance educators and parents are invited to observe this class.

4-4:45 p.m., Master Class for the Primary Dancer

This master class is specially designed for children who are still in the early years of their ballet training. Students have the opportunity to experience the joy of ballet while learning to express themselves creatively with movement and music. Dancers are introduced to the classical technique and style of American Ballet Theatre, and key to elements of the ABT National Training Curriculum. Beginners are encouraged to attend.

5:15-6:15 p.m., Pre-Performance Workshop

Share the wonder of dance with your entire family at American Ballet Theatre's pre-performance workshop! Children ages 4-12 and their parents are invited to join ABT teaching artists prior to the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company performance for an exciting, informative and hands-on introduction to ballet. Children grouped by age are guided through a ballet warm-up and taught a short piece of choreography based on a work they will see during the performance.  All are welcome to experience the joy of ballet - no dance background required!

About the American Ballet Theatre Certified School at the Mason Gross School of the Arts Maeve Dougal, Director of Ballet


The Mason Gross School of the Arts, Extension Division is honored to be one of five ABT Certified Ballet Schools in the nation. Classes for students ages 4-18 are taught during the academic year by ABT-affiliate teachers in the beautiful dance studios of the Nicholas Music Center on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Program participants enjoy the benefits of ABT training in central New Jersey, and participation in many of ABT’s New York based events. All classes utilize the acclaimed ABT® National Training Curriculum.
