WE ARE Mason GROSS SCHOOL of the ARTS

Who We Are

Welcome to an innovative and engaged artistic community.

Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts
Future Roadmap

The Mason Gross Future Roadmap, which lays out a path for the school’s evolution over the next five years, represents countless hours of thoughtful discussion and deliberation informed by faculty, staff, students, and alumni, with input from university colleagues, supporters, and community partners. Such conversations began more than a year into a global pandemic that highlighted inequities rooted deep in society and that caused severe disruption in the arts, bringing into sharp focus many of the challenges that 21st-century artists and scholars are called to confront.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Mason Gross School of the Arts is committed to the following ideals in its pursuit of excellence in artistry, creativity, scholarship, and teaching:

  • Diversity of representation among its faculty, staff, and student body as well as its curriculum and programming
  • Equitable treatment of all members of its community along with equal access to the resources and opportunities the school affords
  • A genuine spirit of inclusivity in its manifold endeavors and in the quest to create a climate of belonging that not only tolerates but embraces differences of all kinds
  • Adopting anti-racist measures meant to actively work against systemic and institutional racism and bias

Research and Innovation

Research is fundamental to what we do at Mason Gross School of the Arts. As an arts conservatory in a public research university in a diverse region with a robust arts scene, Mason Gross is uniquely positioned to forge new paths in the study and practice of the arts—to create new knowledge about and through the arts in ways that are rigorous, inclusive, exploratory, and engaged.
