DESCRIPTION:Visiting Artist Lecture: Abigail Lucien\nWednesday\, April 29\, 2026 at 7 p.m.\nCivic Square Building\, Room 110 \nBio\nAbigail Lucien (b.1992) is a Haitian-American interdisciplinary artist. Working across sculpture\, writing\, and time-based media\, their practice addresses themes of (be)longing\, futurity\, myth\, and place by considering our relationship to inherited colonial structures and systems of belief/care. Implicating our relationship to material and place through an architectural vernacular\, Lucien uses formal poetics to ponder concepts such as loss\, love\, and grief as fluid processions rather than states to reach or become. \nLucien’s work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times\, Hyperallergic\, Artforum\, Frieze Magazine\, and Art in America. National and international exhibitions include Palais de Tokyo (Paris\, FR)\, MoMA PS1 (NY)\, Baltimore Museum of Art (Baltimore\, MD)\, SculptureCenter (NY)\, MAC Panamá (Panamá City\, PAN)\, Frost Art Museum (Miami\, FL)\, Tiwani Contemporary (London\, UK)\, Deli Gallery (NY)\, Nicola Vassell Gallery (NY)\, and Atlanta Contemporary (Atlanta\, Ga). DESCRIPTION:Visiting Artist Lecture: Angela Dufresne\nMonday\, April 6\, 2026 at 7 p.m.\nCivic Square Building\, Room 110 \nBio\nANGELA DUFRESNE is a painter and educator based in Brooklyn. With painting\, drawing\, printmaking\, and performative works\, she creates heterotopic narratives that embrace vulnerability\, contradiction and nuance.  Her works are the result of irreverent interaction with various cultural archives: American vernaculars\, the dredges of European aesthetics and philosophy\, film\, literature and yes\, the many histories of painting\, lauded and loathed. \nGallery exhibitions include Monya Rowe and CRG NY\, Yossi Milo NY and M & B in Los Angeles.  Group and collaborative exhibitions include “50 paintings’  at the Milwaukee museum organized by Michel Grabner\, Where I End\, We Begin\, at Suny SUNY purchase and LSU university with Mala Iqbal; Visionary New England\, at the deCordova Museum\, Paint\, also known as Blood\, Curated by Natalia Sielewicz\, Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw\, Warsaw\, Poland and Greater NY at PS1. DESCRIPTION:Visiting Artist Lecture: Liz Collins\n*Postponed to Wednesday\, March 25\, 2026\, due to inclement weather*\nWednesday\, February 25\, 2026 at 7 p.m.\nCivic Square Building\, Room 110 \nBio\nLiz Collins lives and works in Brooklyn\, NY. She received her BFA and MFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design. She is represented by Candice Madey. \nCollins is well-known for pushing the boundaries of art and design in innovative and experimental work in fabric\, yarn\, and other materials and techniques associated with textile media. Although she embraces a language of abstraction\, bold colors\, patterns\, and symbols allude to queer and feminist references\, sourcing further inspiration from interpersonal and environmental forces such as electricity\, volatility\, connectivity\, and energy exchange. \nWhether in the form of textile\, painting\, drawing or installation\, Collins frequently explores the dichotomy of structure and entropy–qualities inherent to textile that speak to the fissures present in broader architectural\, political\, and social structures. Processes of slowly cutting\, unbinding\, revealing\, and rearranging subtly nod to the destabilization that takes place when small but organized acts aim to undercut rigid systems. \nCollins’s honors include an Anonymous Was A Woman Fellowship\, a USA Fellowship\, a MacColl Johnson Fellowship\, Foundation for Contemporary Arts & Artist Relief grants\, Drawing Center Open Sessions and residencies at Civitella Ranieri\, Siena Art Institute\, MacDowell\, Yaddo\, Haystack\, Museum of Arts and Design\, Stoneleaf\, and currently she is in the Two Trees Cultural Subsidy Studio Program in Brooklyn. DESCRIPTION:Visiting Artist Lecture: Adam HajYahia\nMonday\, March 9\, 2026 at 7 p.m.\nCivic Square Building\, Room 110 \nBio\nAdam HajYahia’s work examines how aesthetic practices of image-making\, performance\, writing\, and sound—both within and outside the art market—reflect on\, simulate\, initiate\, and break apart sociality and political consciousness\, particularly after the advent of colonial modernity. Through his work as a scholar\, writer\, and curator\, he explores the at once harmonious and dissonant relationships between psychoanalysis and social organization\, desire and labor\, and settler-colonial and imperial economies\, as well as counter forms of political rebellion. He has recently served on the selection committee at the Biennale of Moving Images in Geneva (BIM’26) and published An Echo in Search of its Shadow: Aesthetics of the Repressed (2024)\, featuring new artworks by Haitham Haddad. His curatorial projects and scholarship have been presented and featured in various museums\, universities\, and cultural institutions\, such as the Sharjah Biennial 16 (2025)\, The Vera List Center at The New School (2024)\, The Mosaic Rooms (2023)\, The James Gallery at the CUNY Graduate Center (2023)\, MoMA PS1 (2022)\, The Berlin Biennale 12 (2022)\, and Mophradat (2022-24). DESCRIPTION:Visiting Artist Lecture: Jeremiah William McCarthy\nWednesday\, March 4\, 2026 at 7 p.m.\nCivic Square Building\, Room 110 \nBio\nJeremiah William McCarthy is presently the chief curator and curator of American art at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers\, The State University of New Jersey. Previously\, he was chief curator at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art and consulting curator for The Pocantico Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund where he co-organized “Inspired Encounters: Women Artists and the Legacies of Modern Art\,” the inaugural exhibition of the campus’s new David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center in Tarrytown\, NY. Prior to his work for The Fund\, he served as curator at the National Academy of Design and associate curator at the American Federation of Arts. Additionally\, he has worked in the curatorial and education departments of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum\, and he was an inaugural teaching fellow at The Frick Collection\, New York. \nMcCarthy has taught the history of photography at City College of the City University of New York (CUNY). DESCRIPTION:Visiting Artist Lecture: Lucy Gallun\nWednesday\, February 11\, 2026 at 7 p.m.\nCivic Square Building\, Room 110 \nBio\nLucy Gallun is Curator in the Department of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Her most recent exhibition is Life Dances On: Robert Frank in Dialogue\, which opened in Fall 2024 and coincided with Frank’s centenary. Since joining MoMA in 2010\, Gallun has curated three notable iterations of the Museum’s New Photography exhibition series (Companion Pieces: New Photography 2020\, Being: New Photography 2018\, and Ocean of Images: New Photography 2015). Other MoMA exhibitions she has curated or co-curated include Artist’s Choice: Yto Barrada—A Raft (2021–22); Nan Goldin: The Ballad of Sexual Dependency (2016–17)\, and Soldier\, Spectre\, Shaman: The Figure and the Second World War (2015–16)\, among many others. Gallun was co-editor and contributing author of Photography at MoMA\, a three-volume history\, and she has published widely within and outside MoMA. Gallun earned her bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania. She conducts an iterative perceptual painting practice and is interested in genre as a site to play out the dialectic of defiance and allegiance\, in repetition as devotion\, habit\, and estrangement\, in attention as volatile\, volitional\, and market rate\, and in looking away as a form of care. \nDeGiulio (b. 1978 Chicago Heights\, IL) studied at SAIC\, worked at Blick during undergrad\, tended bar in Iowa\, delivered pizza and worked customer service at a university bookstore in Wisconsin\, stocked refrigerator shelves at Whole Foods for 7 years after grad school\, and has taught visual art to graduate and undergraduate students for 18 years\, for the last 11 at NYU and Columbia University. DESCRIPTION:Visiting Artist Lecture: Kristin Walsh\nWednesday\, October 22\, 2025 at 7 p.m.\nCivic Square Building\, Room 110 \nBio\nKristin Walsh (b. 1989 Emerald Isle\, North Carolina) lives and works in New York\, NY. She earned a BFA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2013 and an MFA from Columbia University in 2017.  \nWalsh’s practice investigates the ways in which hidden and visible systems guide our thoughts and actions. Adopting the visual languages of machinery and public infrastructure\, Walsh crafts flawless aluminum sculptures that conceal the artist’s hand. By removing familiar referents from their daily context and altering them\, Walsh imbues her works with a dual nature: they are at once otherworldly and expository.  \nEngineered\, welded\, and polished from stock metal\, many of Walsh’s sculptures contain unseen mechanical elements that animate their surfaces\, likening them to horological devices.
