School to School Transfer and Re-Enrollment& Re-Enrollment Applicants

The Art & Design and Dance Departments will review applicants for the Spring 2020 semester. The Art & Design, Dance, Filmmaking, Music, and Theater Departments will review applicants for the Fall 2020 semester.

Any Rutgers student interested in pursing a degree within Mason Gross School of the Arts should start the process by emailing admissions@mgsa.rutgers.edu by the dates listed below in the timeline section. In your email include your full name, RUID, current school of enrollment, year, and the BFA or BM program you want to enroll in.

To be considered for admission applicants are reviewed both artistically and academically. After contacting admissions@mgsa.rutgers.edu, applicants will be emailed the Mason Gross supplemental application to submit a portfolio or schedule an audition. If recommended artistically, applicants will be granted access via RUID to the Rutgers School to School Transfer Application or the Rutgers Re-Enrollment Application. 

Applicants must meet the following academic requirements to be admitted to the Mason Gross School of the Arts:

From another Rutgers New Brunswick school:

  • 12 graded degree credits, excluding remedial courses
  • A Rutgers cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.000
  • Expository Writing (01:355:101) or an acceptable equivalent course with a grade of "C" or better
  • If a dance applicant, meet the guidelines for re-audition outlined here
  •  

    From another Rutgers Camden or Newark school:

  • At least two semesters, including the current semester, as a student in your present school or college at Rutgers University, also including at least 12 graded degree credits, excluding remedial courses
  • A Rutgers cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.000
  • English Composition I and II (Camden 50:350:101 and 50:350:102) (Newark 21:355:101 and 21:355:102) with grades of "C" or better

    Timeline

    Spring Admission (dance, visual arts, design)

    Applicants applying to the Spring semester (dance, visual arts, design) must email admissions@mgsa.rutgers.edu by no later than November 15. The appropriate Mason Gross supplemental application will be emailed in response and should be submitted by December 1. Applicants will receive an artistic decision by December 20. Applicants recommended artistically will then be granted special permission to access the Rutgers University School to School Transfer Application or Rutgers Re-Enrollment Application. Final decisions are posted by January 15. The Art & Design and Dance Departments will consider former Rutgers students for a Spring 2019 semester start. All Mason Gross departments will consider former Rutgers students for a Fall 2019 semester start. 

     

    Fall Admission

    Applicants applying to the Fall semester must email admissions@mgsa.rutgers.edu by the dates listed below. The appropriate Mason Gross supplemental application will be emailed in response.
  • Theater: email by January 1 | supplemental application due by January 15
  • Dance: email by January 1 | supplemental application due by January 15
  • Music: email by January 1 | supplemental application due by January 15
  • Film: email by February 1 | supplemental application due by February 15
  • Art & Design: email by April 1 | supplemental application due by April 15
  • Applicants will receive an artistic decision by May 15. Applicants recommended artistically will then be granted special permission to access the Rutgers University School to School Transfer Application or Rutgers Re-Enrollment Application. Final decisions are posted by June 30.

     

    Declaring a BA or Minor

    Students who wish to declare a BA in Art & Design, Dance, Music, and Theater should contact their current advisor for more information about class registration.  Please read below if the BA of your choice requires an audition or portfolio review.  BA majors or minors who are required to complete a talent evaluation ARE NOT required to complete a supplemental application for Mason Gross.  Please contact the advisor below to arrange your talent evaluation:

    • Art & Design: Portfolio required for BA, no portfolio required for art minor. please visit the Audition/Portfolio Information page for more information.
