Visual Arts Graduate

The Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) program in Visual Arts encompasses various perspectives and fields of study. The M.F.A. program provides a supportive and critical community in which students may expand their aesthetic concepts, develop strategies for expressing those concepts, and create a pertinent and personal artistic practice.

The program offers courses in painting, sculpture, photography, media, performance, printmaking, and mixed media and is interdisciplinary in nature. There are no graphic design or film courses in the graduate program.  Critical, social, and aesthetic issues are explored in seminars that complement the studio courses and critiques.

A wide range of artists and critics are invited to the school each term, providing students with opportunities to explore current ideas and developments. Recent visiting artists and critics years include Janine Antoni, Willie Cole, Lyle Ashton Harris, Rachel Harrison, Jim Hodges, Mary Kelly, William Kentridge, Nikki Lee, Catherine Opie, Pepon Osorio, Roxy Paine, Paul Pfeiffer, David Reed, Peter Saul, Carolee Schneemann, Fred Wilson, and Christopher Wool.
