Mason Gross School of the Arts is proud to host the 2004 Southern Graphics Council Conference in New Brunswick, New Jersey. New Brunswick is a 45-minute train ride from Manhattan and a half-hour train ride from Newark International Airport. Bus routes connect La Guardia and JFK Airports to the Newark train station. The New Brunswick train station is a 5-minute walk to the conference. Mason Gross is in downtown New Brunswick on 'Theater Row', next door to the State and Crossroads Theaters, where most events will take place. It is a short walk to the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The keynote will be an interview style 'conversation' with June Wayne based on questions supplied by the audience before the event. June Wayne's rich history as artist, savior of lithography, political advocate and staunch supporter of equal rights for women in the art world will make this a lively discussion. Ms. Wayne recently donated her extensive collection, including her own and other artists' work, to the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper/Mason Gross School of the Arts. Make an appointment to visit the June Wayne Study Center where the prints are housed.

Artist Chuck Close will accept the Lifetime Achievement Award at the conference, and Judith K. Brodsky will receive the Printmaker Emeritus Award. A special Award of Distinction will be awarded to Roberta Waddell, Curator of Prints, the New York Public Library. These events will be followed by exhibitions and receptions.

Several artists will be working in collaboration with master printers during the conference, among them Willie Cole and Joan Snyder; conference attendees can see work in its _nal stages, plus demonstrations of exciting new techniques, the Product Fair, Open Portfolio, the SGC print exchange, and optional Friday night entertainment.

On Saturday, March 20th, the conference moves to New York City. We will assemble at the New Brunswick train station to ride our own train into the city. You'll be supplied with a NYC FUN PASS for travel on subways and buses to over 12 arranged events, from panel discussions with critics, to tours of print workshops, galleries and museums. The annual SGC Banquet will be held Saturday evening in New York and will include live music and dancing. We will have our own reserved train back to New Brunswick Saturday evening. There is an optional tour to Ellis Island on Sunday.

Your SGC Conference registration includes bonuses, such as free train travel to New York and a NYC FUN PASS, special curatorial talks, 'conversations' between noted artists and curators, panel discussions, three opening receptions, and a cornucopia of print events. In addition there will be theme portfolios which SGC members are organizing especially for this conference. An invitational student exhibition will be on view, as well as a book exhibition curated by artist Buzz Spector.
