Theater Arts Graduate Theater Arts students in Mason Gross School of the Arts' graduate programs concentrate in one of four major disciplines:
Since theater is, by its nature, a collaborative art form, all four graduate programs are carefully coordinated to complement one another. The theater arts programs not only develop individual technical skills needed for each profession, but also cultivate rich collaborative experiences between the disciplines. Students who possess outstanding talent and total dedication to their artistic development will find each program provides concrete and rigorous training that will ultimately prepare them to make genuine contributions to the professional theater. A three-year, full-time residency is required for all programs. The department's faculty consists of master teachers and working professionals who believe that significant contribution to the field of theater arts can be made only by artists who possess mastery of their craft and have an inspiring artistic vision. Therefore, standards for each program-acting, directing, playwriting, stage management, and design-are high. To ensure that each student is making appropriate progress, the department conducts faculty review at the end of every term and each student must retain total faculty support to continue in the program.
