Michael Pavelka

Head of Design for Rutgers Conservatory at Shakespeare’s Globe

Michael Pavelka is a founder member and designer of the world-touring Propeller Theatre company: their internationally acclaimed reinventions of Shakespeare have played London’s West End, BAM, the Guthrie, and Boston. Michael has designed many other West End shows for the RSC and National Theatre, and has designed shows in the US for Seattle Rep, Charleston’s Spoleto Festival, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and off-Broadway. He is currently working with New York director Michael Mayer on a new production of Funny Girl. For 20 years he has led undergraduate and post-graduate programs in Europe’s largest theatre design department at the University of the Arts London (Wimbledon College of Arts) and published the critically praised So You Want to be a Theatre Designer? Among a number of awards and nominations he won UK Theatre’s Best Set Design (2009) for The Merchant of Venice.
