Köln Exchange Program

The Mason Gross School of the Arts/ Hochschule für Musik student exchange program offers graduate Voice students the opportunity to study at one of the world's premiere music institutions, the Musikhochschule in Köln Germany.

The worldwide reputation of this Hochschule is based, above all, on the nurturing and development of the education of classical music, as well as the inclusion of contemporary music, dance and jazz. A wide-ranging, departmentalized academic offering, providing students with an education in a vast array of musical disciplines, is available.

Graduates of Applied Music, Music Pedagogy, Music History and Dance, reinforce the excellent international reputation of the Hochschule. Also, the students' successes in a variety of international competitions attests to the quality of the institution.

Further information about the Hochschule für Musik Köln is available at the Hochschule's website.

Application Information

If you are interested in being considered for this exchange program you need to make an application, in the form of a essay, by April 1 (in the semester before you wish to make the exchange). We highly recommend that the student stay for two semesters. The essay should address how you are qualified for this program, and why you want to do this course of study. The essay needs to be in the Music department main office by the deadline listed above.

Student's Comment

"Many American singers consider training and auditioning in Europe, and this kind of experience provides an important link. I have been able to work with coaches, conductors, and professors from all different countries at the Hochschule für Musik, and they bring all kinds of perspectives and ideas I might not have encountered at home. Köln is full of artistic life. There are so many opportunities to both make music and hear it. Very important to my growth and development as a singer and as a world citizen."
