Rutgers Jazz Ensemble pays tribute to Count Basie Nov. 29

TanyaDarbyThe Rutgers Jazz Ensemble is set to perform a tribute concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, honoring swing-era jazz pianist, bandleader and composer William "Count" Basie and the arrangers who wrote for his legendary Big Band. The concert will take place at Nicholas Music Center.

The student band will perform music by Quincy Jones, Sammy Nestico, Bill Holman, Neil Hefti, Frank Foster, Billy Byers, Benny Carter, Oliver Nelson and Buck Clayton, among other arranging legends. Conrad Herwig conducts.

The concert will feature students Tanya Darby (at left) and Isrea Butler, both of whom have performed with the Count Basie Orchestra.
