| Online Music Study About Online Music Courses Mason Gross School of the Arts is pleased to offer a program of selected online music courses. The courses to be offered are credit courses that can be used to fulfill the Humanities requirement of the baccalaureate degree or the requirements for a music minor. Online courses are ideal for self-motivated working students, non-resident students, resident students with schedule conflicts, students who wish to continue their studies during summer and other breaks, potential students who are considering Rutgers as their four-year university, including qualified high-school seniors, and individuals who have degrees but wish to study music in greater depth than non-credit adult learning. Mason Gross’s online courses are structured to permit twenty-four hour, seven-day-per-week access to course materials, with frequent input by the instructors. All course work is paced by periodic reading and listening assignments. Because students may work in the course at any time, they may participate as their schedules permit. Discussion forums include both other students and the instructor and furnish the opportunity for interaction and guidance. Class size is limited, so students have direct contact with the instructor in the discussion forums as well as the option of direct contact via email. Technical Information Rutgers University and Mason Gross online music use eCollege for their distance-learning courses. eCollege is a powerful, easy-to-use, interactive platform that requires no special computer skills from the user but permits a full media experience. Course Offerings The Music Department of Mason Gross plans to offer a selection of Introduction to Music (07:700:101) online each semester. In addition we hope to offer at least one non-major course at the 200-level. In Spring 2008 this will be Studies in Music History: Music of the Renaissance (07:700:212). Introduction to Music 101 has no prerequisite. Courses at the 200-level normally have either 07:700:101 or 07:700:103 (or their equivalents) as a prerequisite. You can register for these courses online. You will find them in the Schedule of Classes by selecting "OFF CAMPUS/New Brunswick" under Campus Location.
