INSTRUCTIONS FOR NON-MAJOR LESSONS

BA Music and non-music majors must do the following each semester in order to audition for a lesson.

Piano And Voice

Auditions for lessons are scheduled the first three days of each semester, 10-Noon and 1-3.

  1. Come to the Marryott Music Building, Douglass Campus
  2. Get information and audition forms from the table in the lobby
  3. Follow the directions
  4. Audition for a choir or large ensemble

Instruments - Classical And Jazz

Auditions are handled by the directors of large ensembles; Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble.

All classical woodwind and brass must audition for Wind Ensemble.

Auditions are the first week of school during ensemble auditions

  1. Come to the Marryott Music Building, Douglass Campus

  3. Follow the directions
  4. Audition for a large ensemble

If you are accepted into a choir/ensemble, and the faculty/ensemble director recommends a private lesson or class, you will see me to learn if space is available. If so, I will provide you with registration numbers.

No guarantee of lesson.

NON-MAJOR LESSON INFORMATION

PIANO and VOICE auditions are held as follows:
 
First three days of each semester
10:00am-Noon, 1:00pm-3:00pm
Wednesday: 10:00-Noon only

In order to be eligible you must also audition and be accepted into a choir. Go to music.rutgers.edu for audition dates and times.

CLASSICAL WOODWIND, BRASS, AND PERCUSSION players who want to be considered for non-major lessons must go to the auditions for Wind Ensemble during the first week of school. Go to music.rutgers.edu for dates and times. The Wind Ensemble audition will double as your audition for lessons.

CLASSICAL STRING players who want to be considered for non-major lessons must go to the auditions for Orchestra or Sinfonia during the first week of school. Go to music.rutgers.edu for dates and times. The Orchestra or Sinfonia audition will double as your audition for lessons.

JAZZ players who want to be considered for non-major lessons must go to the auditions for Jazz Ensemble during the first week of school. Go to music.rutgers.edu for dates and times. The Jazz Ensemble audition will double as your audition for lessons.
The Department of Music reserves the right to assign any student registered for performance lessons to an ensemble of its choice.
IT IS MANDATORY THAT YOU BE ACCEPTED INTO A LARGE ENSEMBLE IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR PRIVATE NON MAJOR LESSONS. NO EXCEPTIONS.
