Kevin T. Allen is a filmmaker and sound-artist who makes ethnographically imbued films in Vietnam, Sri Lanka, India, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, the Wild West, university laboratories, and migrant farm worker communities. He exhibits at numerous venues, including MoMA, Ethnographic Terminalia, Flaherty NYC, Margaret Mead Film Festival, UnionDocs Center for Documentary Art, Berlin Directors Lounge, San Francisco Cinematheque, Experiments in Cinema, Analogica, Flex Fest, NW Film Forum, Chicago Underground Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, and New York Film Festival. His sound work is featured at museums and festivals, including the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Third Coast International Audio Festival, Center for Documentary Research, The New Museum, and Deep Wireless Festival of Radio Art.

In addition, Kevin is an award-winning sound designer and re-recording mixer who collaborates with other filmmakers. He works on feature films that go on to screen at internationally at prestigious festivals, including Berlinale, MoMA New Directors, MoMA Doc Fortnight, Sundance, Dok Leipzig, SXSW, Full Frame, True/False, Hot Docs, CPH:DOX, Cinema du Reel, Crossroads, L'alternativa, Big Sky, Oberhausen, Edinburgh, Recontres Internationales, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Camden Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival, and New York Film Festival.

Kevin is co-founder of SMALL GAUGE, a collaborative practice that uses small-gauge formats, asynchronous sound, and small production teams to facilitate alternative sensorial, political, and ethical relations with its subjects. His recent research involves combining extended recording techniques, such as contact microphones and hydrophones, with asynchronous small-gauge filmmaking strategies. As such, he locates culture not exclusively in human forms, but also inherent in physical landscapes and material objects. He is currently working on a project about scientific glassblowers at research universities, dark matter, and glass as a sonic medium. His work is funded through The Jerome Foundation.
