Christina Marte

Cristina Marte is a dance educator, dancer, choreographer, arts administrator and dance advocate. Her passion for pursuing dance as a career developed during her training at the Alvin Ailey Summer Intensive Program. She then seriously continued her dance training and received her B.F.A. from Montclair State University in Dance. Post college graduation, she performed with NYC-based dance companies such as Underground Dance Project and Phoenix Rising while continuing to train with dance masters throughout the city.

Cristina found her true passion in dance when settling into her position as a dance educator for the Ocean County Vocational Technical Schools Performing Arts Academy where she took part in developing the dance curriculum and built the rigorous dance program receiving the national award “Outstanding Dance Program of the Year” from the National Dance Education Organization. To further her dance knowledge, she received her M.A. in Dance Education from New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development. Cristina broadened her teaching experience by joining the faculty of Montclair State University and Raritan Valley Community College as an adjunct professor, developing and teaching a full time dance program in Jersey City Public Schools for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade, being a teaching artist for the Dance To Learn residency program, as well as teaching and judging for Groove National Dance Competition. She has designed various dance curriculums for all grades, including being a part of the original New Jersey State Model Curriculum Writing Team for Dance responsible for developing model curriculums for grades second through high school and private dance studio programs. Continually choreographing as part of her teaching positions, she has choreographed for the Princeton Festival since 2015. As a dancer, Cristina performed in “Icarus Rising”, a dance opera, with Verlezza Dance in 2015. Committed to the field of dance education, she holds a K-12 and Vocational-Dance teaching certificate in the state of New Jersey, is a member of the National Dance Education Organization and was a board member of Dance New Jersey since 2007.

Cristina is now the Managing Director of Dance New Jersey dedicated to supporting and providing for the dance community of New Jersey. She is excited to be a part of the EdM Dance Education Program at Rutgers University.
