Visual Arts Open House and Open Studios set for Oct. 24

The Visual Arts Department is set to host two events on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at the Civic Square Building, 33 Livingston Avenue: MFA Open Studios, open to all, and an open house for prospective undergraduate students. All activities are free.

Fall 2015 is a vibrant time at the school, as the Visual Arts Department welcomes renowned artist Kara Walker as Tepper Chair in Visual Arts and launches a BFA degree in Design. The open house is an opportunity for students, teachers, families, and guidance counselors to speak directly with current students, faculty, and staff to get questions answered in real time.

Meanwhile, Open Studios will allow the public (not just prospective students) to interact with and visit the creative spaces of more than two dozen MFA artists working in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, print, media, photography, and drawing. Artists will be on hand in the studios to discuss their work and practice.

The day will feature the following activities:

  • Undergraduate information sessions and Q&A at 10:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.
  • Portfolio reviews with faculty
  • Student-led tours of Visual Arts facilities
  • Undergraduate Annual Exhibition on view in Mason Gross Galleries
  • MFA Open Studios from 3 to 6 p.m.

Registration is recommended at No registration is required for the open studios. More information is available at 848-932-5210. Please note that a transfer student open house is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, November 6.
