MFA alum nominated for Tony Award for directing Broadway's "Hand to God"

Moritz von Stuelpnagel, who graduated from Mason Gross in 2014 with an MFA in directing, has been nominated for a Tony Award for his direction of Hand to God on Broadway. The dark comedy features a troubled teenager in possession of a foul-mouthed, bullying hand puppet on his own left arm.

Charles Isherwood of The New York Times cited Stuelpnagel in his annual "The Tony Nominations Should Be ..." list, writing that the Mason Gross alum should win the Tony for Best Direction of a Play. Hand to God is also nominated for best play, best leading actor in a play, best leading actress in a play, and best featured actress in a play. The Tony Awards will be broadcast on June 7 on CBS.
