Rutgers Day of Percussion 2013

Rutgers Day of Percussion 2013, to take place on Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nicholas Music Center on the Douglass Campus in New Brunswick, is open to professionals, amateurs, students, teachers, parents, and music directors from the greater New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York areas.

Meet and work with Rutgers University Music Faculty, Mason Gross Extension Division Faculty, as well as Rutgers undergraduate and graduate music students. Master clinics, master classes, workshops, and performances will be presented.

Registration fee: $10 in advance, $15 at the door (parents/guardians attend free). Directions

Featured Percussion Day Events include:

•  Performance clinics with Mason Gross School of the Arts Percussion Faculty.

•  Fundamental Elements of Effective Performance - Rutgers Percussion Department Chair, Joe Tompkins.

•  Techniques on Timpani, Cymbals, and Tambourine/Pandeiro - newest member of the New York Philharmonic percussion section Kyle Zerna.

•  Hand Drumming and Percussion for Modern Dance by Robert “Tigger” Benford.

•  One-on-one mini lessons with Rutgers faculty member Joe Tompkins.

•  The Next Generation of NJ Percussionists: A workshop for precollege educators with Rutgers alum, freelancer, and Rutgers Youth Percussion Ensemble director Peter Saleh.

•  RU Percussion Onstage: The Rutgers Percussion Ensemble and Rutgers Youth Percussion Ensemble, joined by Jon Singer (of Xylopholks fame), showcase their talents alongside Rutgers faculty member Javier Diaz and special guests.
