The 2018 Commencement Convocation Student Speaker is Nia Akilah Robinson, BFA Acting

Nia Akilah Robinson is a fourth-year BFA acting major hailing from New York City's Harlem. At Mason Gross School of the Arts, she has completed the Rutgers Conservatory at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, where she performed in Julius Caesar as Cassius. Her favorite Mason Gross theater credits include: An Octoroon, Here We Are, The Firey and the Snuffy, A Dream Play, Silentium, and As You Like It.

Before attending Rutgers, Robinson participated for six years in the musical theatre program Rosie’s Theatre Kids. While in that program she worked under the influence of Rosie O’ Donnell, B.D. Wong, and playwright Regina Taylor. Robinson received the 2014 YoungArts New York Scholarship in Acting, and she was mentored by Phylicia Rashad, Rosie Perez, and Bill T. Jones and then directed in performance by Mikhail Baryshnikov. Her current mentor is Lamar Perry, previous development manager at the Classical Theatre of Harlem, current artistic associate at the Old Globe in San Diego, California.
