Painter Catherine Murphy is the first endowed faculty chair at Mason Gross School of the Arts

The Rutgers University Board of Governors has approved the selection of artist Catherine Murphy of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., as the first endowed faculty chair at the Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Artist Jason Carey-Sheppard forages for inspiration among the mundane—in sheets of plywood and rolls of tape, in Styrofoam balls, beer cans, bike horns and disco balls. The 25-year-old Mason Gross MFA sculpture student assembles and manipulates unlikely—and, at times, unsettling—combinations of found objects.

Associate Professor in Design

Atıf Akın is an artist and designer living in New York. His work is about technoscientific criticism in the context of contemporary art, science and politics.

He studied engineering and design at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. In last ten years he taught design and media arts in Istanbul, Europe, and the US.

Visual Arts alum Joan Snyder inducted into Hall of Distinguished Alumni

Visual Arts alumna Joan Snyder was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni on May 7, 2011, in New Brunswick. The HDA recognizes alums who have brought honor to the university. Former inductees include Kristin Davis, Avery Brooks and Calista Flockhart.
