07:700:232 Special Topics in Music History: Music of the Baroque

Because the techniques and genres of the Renaissance are the foundation for the music of the Baroque period, this study may be regarded as a continuation of Music of the Renaissance. The music of this period is regarded in the context of its time, with emphasis on the creation of dramatic contrast and the increased role of instruments. Each Renaissance genre is traced to its mature form in the Baroque. Course runs spring semester only.
