The Visual Arts Department at Mason Gross School of the Arts offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Visual Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Design, and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA). Mason Gross School of the Arts also offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) art major and art minor to Rutgers University students enrolled in the School of Arts and Sciences. To apply to the BFA, BA, or MFA program, applicants must first submit the Rutgers University application. Five business days after submitting the university application, applicants will be emailed the link to submit their portfolio. To review the deadlines to apply, click here.

Current & Former Rutgers Students Checklist:
Applicants applying to the BFA program who are currently or were formerly a Rutgers University student (at any Undergraduate school) should follow the checklist below:

Note: The School to School Transfer application and the Re-Enrollment application will not be available until February 1st. If you wait to complete the university application, you will miss the portfolio deadline. MFA IN VISUAL ARTS APPLICATION PROCESS
The two year full-time 60-credit MFA degree program offers seminars in painting, sculpture, photography, media, and printmaking. Please review a sample course catalogue here. Each graduate student at Mason Gross receives private studio space that is available year-round, 24 hours a day, for the duration of their study.
Beginning in the 2016-2017 Academic Year, all accepted students (domestic and international) of the Mason Gross Visual Arts Graduate Program will be recipients of Mason Gross Visual Arts Graduate Fellowships. There are no additional applications or requirements necessary to qualify. For the first year, the fellowship will be the equivalent of out-of-state tuition. In the second year, the fellowship will be the equivalent of in-state tuition. For International Students the fellowship will be the equivalent of out-of-state tuition for both years of the program.
For the 2016-2017 Academic Year, Out-of-State Tuition was $28,272 and In-State Tuition was $17,880.

Letters of Recommendation
-Provide three (3) letters of recommendation
-In your University Application, you will be asked to provide email addresses for three recommenders.
-Your recommenders will be sent a link to upload their letters of recommendation via the Rutgers Graduate Admissions Recommendation Website.
-At least one recommendation should come from a contact from an academic institution. Select recommenders who have a full grasp of you and your work.
-Notify those you intend to request recommendations from at the start of your application process to ensure they are on the lookout for the Rutgers email and that recommendations are received by the appropriate deadline.

-A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test score is required if your undergraduate education was completed in a non-English speaking country. Even if you hold a master's-level degree from a U.S. or other English-speaking country you must still take the TOEFL or IELTS test.
-Scores must be current within 2 years of the semester to which students are applying.
-TOEFL Internet (iBT)* preferred: 83 with a minimum of 22 on the writing, 23 on the speaking, 21 on the reading, and 17 on the listening portions of the TOEFL iBT exam.
-TOEFL (PBT) 575 with a minimum of 5 on the TWE and/or 61 on the written expression section of the TOEFL PBT exam.

The MFA in Visual Arts Program offers students the opportunity to explore and develop the full breadth of their artistic practice and interests through our interdisciplinary program. When choosing your portfolio, please provide examples of the full score of your recent practice, whether a single medium or cross-disciplinary as appropriate.
