All students applying to the dance program at Mason Gross School of the Arts must audition before a committee of the dance faculty, in addition to completing the general undergraduate admissions procedures. There are four audition opportunities each year, one in late fall and the remainder during the spring semester. Students may also obtain permission to submit a recorded video audition.

A $25 audition fee payable to Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is required by the time of the audition.
LIVE AUDITION INFORMATION
The LIVE audition consists of a ballet barre (approximately 30 minutes) followed by an hour-long modern dance class.
Applicants are required to bring a headshot with them to the audition and wear the following attire:
Women: Solid-colored unitard or leotard with pink tights, pink ballet slippers and pointe shoes, if applicable. Hair must be neatly and securely tied back.
Men: Solid-colored unitard or white T-shirt, black or gray tights, ballet slippers.
Modern work will be presented barefoot.

In cases where extreme distance prohibits an in-person audition, permission may be obtained to submit a RECORDED VIDEO audition. To obtain permissions to submit a recorded audition please contact Anne Marie Francis at firstname.lastname@example.org
Prospective students submitting video auditions should include the following:
barre - plie, tendu, degage, rond de jambe, frappe, battement
center - adagio, petit battement
pirouette - in center and moving across the floor
grand allegro - any combination of tour jete, jete, pas de chat, etc.
center combinations: use of spine, curves, plies, footwork and swing combinations
center - full bodied movement combinations, including use of the floor
across the floor - locomotor movements including triplets, runs, jumps, jetes

Master's Degree (Ed.M.):
All prospective master's students who audition in-person or via the recorded option are encouraged to submit an example of choreographic work (10 minutes maximum). Examples may contain work set on students. Prospective students who must audition via the recorded option should fulfill the criteria for ballet and modern stated above and should properly identify him/herself in the footage submitted.
