All students applying to the dance program at Mason Gross School of the Arts must audition before a committee of the dance faculty, in addition to completing the general undergraduate admissions procedures. There are four audition opportunities each year, one in late fall and the remainder during the spring semester. Students may also obtain permission to submit a recorded video audition.

Audition dates can be found here: Audition/Interview Dates

A $40 non-refundable audition fee (in addition to the university’s standard $65 application fee) is required along with the supplemental application which is payable online via credit card.

LIVE AUDITION INFORMATION

The LIVE audition consists of a ballet barre (approximately 30 minutes) followed by an hour-long modern dance class.

Applicants are required to bring a headshot with them to the audition. All applicants are required to wear footless tights and leotards. Sweatpants, legwarmers, skirts or shoes should not be worn, except for ballet slippers for the ballet portion of your audition.

After you complete the Rutgers University application you will receive an email to complete the Mason Gross supplemental application within five business days. The supplemental application requires you to answer questions about your dance background, upload a headshot and resume, and pay the audition fee. Once you submit your supplemental application, you will be invited to register for one of the audition dates.
