**THE 2016 APPLICATION IS CLOSED**
All applicants applying to the Mason Gross School of the Arts Dance Program must first complete a Rutgers University application. After submitting the Rutgers University application, applicants will be sent a link to complete the Mason Gross supplemental application. Through the supplemental application, students will arrange their required audition.
All students applying to the dance program at Mason Gross School of the Arts must audition before a committee of the dance faculty, in addition to completing the general undergraduate admissions procedures. There are four on campus audition opportunities each year, one in late fall and the remainder during the spring semester. There are also regional auditions for all dance applicants in Miami and Los Angeles, and MFA only auditions in New York City and Philadelphia. Applicants who live further than four hours from campus may also obtain permission to submit a recorded video audition.

A $40 non-refundable audition fee (in addition to the university’s standard $65 application fee) is required along with the supplemental application which is payable online via credit card.
LIVE AUDITION INFORMATION
The LIVE audition consists of a ballet barre (approximately 1 hour) followed by an hour-long modern dance class.
Applicants are required to bring a headshot with them to the audition. All applicants are required to wear footless tights and leotards. Sweatpants, legwarmers, skirts or shoes should not be worn, except for ballet slippers for the ballet portion of your audition.

After you complete the Rutgers University application you will receive an email to complete the Mason Gross supplemental application within five business days. The supplemental application requires you to answer questions about your dance background, upload a headshot and resume, register for an audition, and pay the audition fee.

In cases where extreme distance prohibits an in-person audition, permission may be obtained to submit a RECORDED VIDEO audition. To obtain permission to submit a recorded audition please indicate your preference on the Mason Gross Supplemental Audition Application and contact Anne Marie Francis at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prospective students submitting online video auditions should include the following:
BFA/BA Degrees Recorded Audition Requirements:
barre - plie, tendu, degage, rond de jambe, frappe, grand battement
center - tendu, adagio
pirouette - in center and moving across the floor
petit allegro - small jumps
grand allegro - any combination of tour jete, pas de chat, etc.
center combinations: use of spine, curves, plies, footwork and swing combinations
center - full bodied movement combinations, including use of the floor
across the floor - locomotor movements including triplets, runs, jumps, jetes
Master's Degree (EdM) Recorded Audition Requirements:
All prospective master's students who audition in-person or via the recorded option are encouraged to submit an example of choreographic work (10 minutes maximum). Examples may contain work set on students. Prospective students who must audition via the recorded option should fulfill the criteria for ballet and modern stated above under the BFA/BA requirements and should properly identify him/herself in the footage submitted.
*** NOTE: If submitting your recording via DVD/Mail, be sure to include the $40 fee payable to Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and a headshot. If submitting a recording online (preferred) please pay the $40 fee via credit card as part of the Mason Gross Supplemental Audition Application. Audition results cannot be posted until the fee and/or official waiver of the fee is received by the department.
