Acting Program

The Bachelor in Fine Arts Acting Program is designed for the student who wishes to undertake intensive conservatory training in acting. The core of the program consists of four years of acting, voice and speech, and movement. The core program is augmented by courses in stage combat, physical theater, classical style, theatrical makeup, dialects and classical texts. Rutgers Theater Arts features a one-of-a-kind acting training opportunity with the junior year spent at the Rutgers Acting Conservatory at Shakespeare's Globe in London. The goal of the program is professional preparation for careers in theater, film and television.

Open House/Tours

Audition Requirements:

  • If you are planning to audition at the Rutgers New Brunswick campus, you must submit your application to Rutgers University prior to scheduling an audition. After you do so, you will receive a letter from the Theater Arts Department with information on how to schedule your audition at the Rutgers campus or on our National Audition Tour.
  • There is a $40.00 non-refundable audition fee for all acting applicants. (This fee is separate from the application fee to the University.)
  • Actors should present two contrasting monologues. They should be memorized. The combined total of both monologues may not exceed 4 minutes.
  • Auditionees must submit a resume and a picture.

If you choose to audition at the Rutgers University New Brunswick campus, please note that an Open House and Tour of our Theater Arts facilities is scheduled one hour prior to each audition session in New Brunswick. Dates and times to be announced.
