Audition Requirements

Keyboard
Piano (Performance Major)
All works must be performed from memory.
- All major and minor scales and arpeggios
- A movement or a complete work by Bach, Handel, Scarlatti,
or a comparable composer from the Baroque period
- A movement or a complete work by Beethoven, Mozart,
Haydn, or a comparable composer from the Classical
period
- A complete work by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Chopin,
Liszt, or a comparable composer from the Romantic
period
- A short work by Debussy, Ravel, Copland, Barber,
or a comparable composer from the Twentieth Century
Sight-reading skills will be tested.
Piano (Music Education Major)
One piece must be performed from memory.
- A two- or three-part invention by J.S. Bach
- One movement of a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven
- A work by a Nineteenth- or Twentieth-Century composer
Sight-reading skills will be tested
Harpsichord
- Two contrasting works from the French clavecin school
(L. Couperin, F. Couperin, J.P. Rameau)
- A work from the English virginal school (optional)
- A major work of J.S. Bach (partita, sonata, English
suite, etc.)
- A Scarlatti sonata
Organ
- A work by J.S. Bach
- A movement from a 19th century organ work
- A work written after 1900
- Sight-reading of a hymn and demonstration of piano
skills may be expected.
