Music
Graduate Info Music History, Theory, and Composition Application Requirements Applications for Fall admission are due February 1. Applications for January admission are due November 1. Music Education deadlines are March 1 for Fall and November 1 for Spring. A $75.00 non-refundable audition/evaluation fee is also required of all applicants and must be submitted prior to confirmation of an audition or application review. Applicants to the graduate performance programs must submit the univerisity application as noted above. Applicants for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree or the Artist Diploma must also submit evidence of having completed a Master of Music degree or the equivalent. After the application has been submitted, each applicant to the performance program must audition. Auditions are normally held in February for Fall admission and in November for Spring admission. Auditions are arranged only through the use of the Audition Questionnaire Form, which is available online: The completed form can be sent online or mailed directly to the Music Department. Completed application materials and the graduate Audition Questionnaire Form must be submitted at least two weeks prior to audition. On the day of the audition, applicants for the Doctor of Musical Arts program will be asked to write an essay on a musical subject. If the applicant does not demonstrate the appropriate level of English or historical knowledge, that applicant will be considered for the Artist Diploma program only. One may transfer to the Doctor of Musical Arts at a later date after these deficiencies are remedied. Graduate Program in Music Education
Applicants for the Master of Music in Music Education and the Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education programs must submit the university application as noted above and provide a writing sample, a university-level research or term paper preferably on topic related to music or music education. Other requirements (e.g., audition for performance, portfolio for composition) will depend on the choice of cognate area, which does not have to be made at the time of admission. Applicants for the Master of Arts and the Doctor of Philosophy must submit the university application as noted above and GRE scores in addition to the completed application form. Applicants for music history and musicology are asked to include research papers, for example essays or papers from their undergraduate or graduate music courses. Composers should send a portfolio of representative compositions, preferably with tapes or CDs. These materials may be sent directly to the Music Department or may included with the regular application sent to University Admissions.
